When the light becomes part of the ceiling

In the last decade, a clear trend has been established in the world of architecture: a ceiling is no longer just a technical element that encloses a space, and lighting is no longer an afterthought. Project planning requires a holistic solution in which metal, geometry, lighting and atmosphere work together. A precise, integral and modern combination, one that serves the function but does not compromise on aesthetics. Within this movement, the integrated metal ceilings of the German Durlum set a new standard, and as its exclusive partners in Israel, Hecht Ephraim brings to the local market advanced architectural technology that allows designers to create complete spatial experiences.

One of the most intriguing solutions is the LOOP system with the PUNTEO J60 lighting fixtures. This is a metal ceiling with a layered circular structure, in which the lighting fixture is integrated into the geometric shape instead of being detached from it. The result is a ceiling with subtle depth, smooth and continuous light and a visual appearance that feels designed from the ground up. The system is available with a magnetic connection, which allows for extremely easy maintenance without compromising the clean look.

Another solution presents a completely different architectural language: the LIVA system, an aluminum Open Cell ceiling that almost looks as if it is floating above the space. The blades open in different directions, creating a play of light and shadow, and between them are integrated linear lighting fixtures that fit right into the dynamics of the building. The ability to incorporate lighting without “breaking” the geometry is one of the reasons this solution was chosen for prestigious projects around the world, including the luxury towers in Manhattan, where a high and impressive white ceiling was produced, between the blades of which the lighting fixtures were integrated as a natural element in the composition.

The RHOMBOS system presents a different approach: an expanded linear network within which the OMEGA lighting channels are integrated. Here, the lighting is not only part of the ceiling, but also part of its connection mechanism. The lighting profile serves as a carrier element to which the ceiling panels are connected using the Plug and Play method. This allows for quick and clean installation without special tools, and results in a ceiling with continuous lines, a repetitive rhythm, and a precise appearance that is particularly suitable for commercial spaces and modern offices.

The POLYLAM system offers a richer visual language, with vertical aluminum baffles that create a sense of depth and movement. Between the fins, the OMEGA 63 lighting profile can be integrated, which continues the metal line and creates a ceiling that is almost a sculptural element in itself. The PUNTEO-N can also be integrated: circular LED spot lighting units with a minimalist design that are elegantly integrated into the POLYLAM beams. Thanks to the possibility of matching the fins and bodies in any RAL shade and incorporating Tunable White technology, this system allows architects full control over both the appearance of the space and the atmosphere they create.

The common denominator of all these solutions is the concept that ceiling and lighting are not two separate systems. They are systems that are built together, tested together and designed together. Durlum develops products in which every detail, from the connection to the optical dispersion of light, is examined with a mind for completeness, order and the relationship between material and light. In combination with Hecht Ephraim’s planning and architecture system in Israel, from the planning stages to on-site production, architects in Israel can now offer their clients spaces in which the uniformity is not only visual but also substantial.

In a reality where the experience of space is part of the brand, the feel and the quality of each project, integral solutions like those of Durlum allow the creation of spaces in which light is not added to the structure, but part of the architecture itself.
