Enveloping and quiet warmth: wood on the ceiling and walls

Aesthetic appearance, warmth and acoustic quality characterize the ceiling systems and wall coverings of Hecht&Afrim.

Wood is one of the most common natural materials in design and architecture and is a perfect choice for design that is not dependent on trends. Its strength, strength, aesthetics and the feeling of warmth it transmits make it a preferred material in the design of commercial spaces, offices and residential spaces, which are being revived with the help of modern technologies.

The Hecht&Efraim Group, which brings together Israeli factories and representative offices of construction companies from Israel and abroad, has been operating for over 70 years and specializes in the development, production and design of ceiling systems and acoustic wall coverings, including wood, that prevent reverberation and contribute to good and comfortable acoustics for the listener. The suspended ceilings (or false ceilings) are designed to conceal or visually blur functional systems such as air conditioning, electricity, water sprinklers and more in areas with high levels of systems, while providing the option of maintenance through service openings. The acoustic wood wall coverings are also intended for the private sector for whom noise is a nuisance.

The group represents two international companies in Israel and markets their solutions in the field:

* The French company Oberflex specializes in wood lamination processes and currently has the world’s widest variety of wood textures, with over 500 models. The company, which has been in existence for over 90 years, Introduced the world to HPL panels (high-pressure laminated panels with real wood veneer) as early as 1968 and is constantly engaged in research and development. About five years ago, it developed a new way to hang the ceiling filling units at different angles and offset from each other, creating rich volumes and rhythms that can usually only be produced on demand. It has 24 such suspended carrier systems, which control the sound quality in the space and balance sound absorption, reflection and dispersion.

The systems allow easy access for servicing electromechanical systems as well as ventilation in the gap between the suspended ceiling and the background ceiling (plenum), which extends the life of the suspended ceiling. Among the common systems, each with its own size range: BLOC, which comes with a standard oak veneer and walnut veneer, which produces a painted graphic rhythm; RIFT, which has suspended units with an angular tilt in a tile pattern; and VOLCAN, which also produces angular tilt and a three-dimensional appearance.

In the field of wall coverings, the company has an innovative perforation collection in MDF that allows sound energy to enter through the perforated board and be absorbed by the internal fibrous material, and is expressed in diverse textures that provide an energetic and moving appearance such as rain, fabric, and more. Together with the range of wood textures, the company offers particularly high aesthetic levels that are not common in Israel.

The continuous innovations began in 2003 thanks to the collaboration between Studio 5.5 in Paris and Oberflex, and won global design awards and a gold medal at the BATIMAT Biennale in France.

* Woodfit is an Irish company that has been operating for about 40 years in the field of high-quality acoustic materials for ceilings and walls and in the traditional standard of hanging on the ceiling (using a carrier system of T-profiles). Hecht&Afrim provides in this category design and technical advice, work plans and materials according to the plan for grooved (linear), perforated (perforated) tile systems and grill ceilings, as well as for wall coverings on demand from solid wood with a three-dimensional appearance and for nano-perforation in wood – a perforation with a diameter of 0.2 mm that gives the filling high acoustic qualities and a monolithic appearance.

The products of the Hecht&Afrim Group meet all building standards in Israel and international standards and are integrated into projects Large and prestigious construction projects, including the Ir Yamim Mall in Netanya, the Israel Museum, the Teva Factory (Kfar Saba), the Cellcom House in Netanya, the Agam Museum in Rishon LeZion, the ScienceTech in Haifa, the Levinstein House in Ra’anana, the Ichilov, Tel Hashomer and Soroka hospitals, office towers and skyscrapers, and these days also in the National Library being built in Jerusalem and the blood bank being built in Ramla. Hacht&Efraim has three branches and showrooms in Haifa, Holon and Ashdod, serving construction companies, building contractors, architectural firms, interior designers, renovation contractors and others, as well as private clients.
