Behind Closed Doors: How to Make Your Private Office Acoustic and Stylish

Designing work environments and making them acoustic has become a field in itself that has undergone a fascinating evolution in the last decade. Here are some of the options worth getting to know:

The private office

A private office is the ultimate solution when it comes to wanting privacy, although problems related to noise can arise here too.

The main one is the phenomenon of reverberation, which impairs any ability to have a pleasant and clear conversation with a client or go over an urgent document with a colleague. In some cases, there will also be a “leakage” of conversations from the adjacent office – all of which together place a great strain on the acoustics in the small office.

This is where the acoustic ceiling comes into play. One option is to go for an “imperceptible” ceiling like the Nittobu ceiling. This ceiling is made of strong and dense glass wool with an extremely high acoustic level (0.9-1.0NRC). The use of this type of ceiling is very common because the white and clean appearance is not burdensome to the eye and blends in with the office furniture. In addition, the free tiles are an excellent solution for the need to dismantle the ceiling from time to time to service the systems above.

The shared office

Next is the shared office, which is shared by several people who work with each other.

In such an office, the employees who share the space also engage in individual tasks, conduct phone calls and meet with clients. In such cases, the echo phenomenon can increase and affect the efficiency with which the office functions.

In such cases, acoustic desk partitions are a great solution. Modern partitions replace the crude and gray “cubicles” of the past and offer new and more exciting methods of acoustic separation between workstations. Autex Vicinity partitions fit easily on the desk and can be disassembled and assembled without a problem. Their ergonomic design is delicate and “flows” with the design lines of different styles that can be found in workspaces.

Another option is to use Autex acoustic wall partitions. The partitions are suitable when we want to create visual separation in addition to acoustic, such as “carving out” a small, intimate seating area within a large, spacious lounge. The partitions are made of recycled polyester and are manufactured in various colors and patterns that allow for pre-matching to the colors already existing in the office (furniture colors, carpet, etc.).

In the conference room

A conference room presents a significant acoustic challenge. On the one hand, these rooms should allow people to listen and share ideas even when sitting at the far end of the table. On the other hand, sometimes some people will engage in side conversations in an attempt to avoid disturbing the main conversation of the meeting, which only increases the reverberation in the space. Here too, acoustic metal ceilings combined with acoustic cladding can solve the problem.

The metal ceilings produced by Hecht Ephraim are suitable for conference rooms in various designs. Among them, we can find the classics painted in black, white, and any of the colors in the RAL range. Alongside them, we can find ceilings that are printed with a custom-made texture, such as a split wood ceiling that helps to further explore the imagination.
