Let’s Hang On To It: Aspen Ceilings Open a Window to a New Kind of Design

Expanded mesh (stretch mesh) ceilings manufactured by Hecht Ephraim are gaining momentum. About types of ceilings, hanging forms, and combining types of coverings – all this in the following article.

What is an expanded mesh ceiling?

Expanded mesh ceilings (stretch mesh) consist of a woven and galvanized metal mesh with different mesh sizes. This ceiling is acoustically neutral and is used for various applications, which we will briefly review:

A complete, clean and tidy appearance

The first system is a hook-on tray hanging system. The ceiling is suitable as a solution for places where high air circulation is required, lighting passes through the tiles and the concealment of air conditioning or electrical systems. Removing the trays for maintenance of the systems above them and reinstalling them afterwards is easy, fast and simple. The tiles come in several models, including an internal frame, an external frame or a frameless model.

The tiles can be placed densely or spaced apart on an iron frame and can be chosen in all sizes and dimensions, and in different shapes. For example, you can choose triangular tiles or rectangular cells and create different geometric patterns on the ceiling. The acoustic insulation material also has a design statement, for example, choosing black tones will emphasize the appearance of the perforations, and alternatively, white tones will create a monolithic appearance. The resulting appearance is uniform, full, clean and tidy.

Expanded Hook-OnMaximum exposure

The next system is the Extended Drop-In system. This system, in a recessed or semi-recessed version, is connected to a construction that sits on T24 / T15 / Fine Line profiles. This system has an open, industrial and modern look through which you can see all the systems, the winding pipes and the sloping ventilation infrastructure. To provide acoustic value and make the ceiling not only a decorative means but also a functional structure, you can integrate acoustic tiles glued directly to the ceiling.

In terms of lighting, the exposed-look system allows you to create an impressive effect obtained by combining the various lighting fixtures. The lighting fixtures, which have different geometric shapes, are placed above the grid against the winding shapes of the pipes and sprinkler systems – and together they create interest. For example, you can integrate rounded lighting fixtures that float on the tile or replace the tile and place a ceiling-mounted lighting fixture in its place. The resulting look can be integrated spatially, in large work and entertainment spaces, in hallways and wide foyers.

Drop in Expanded360 degrees of industrial look

In addition to the various mesh ceilings, Hecht Ephraim also has a solution for treating the walls of the space. The Expanded wall cladding systems sit on an existing wall and connect to it directly using a dedicated profile. One of the great advantages of this cladding is the possibility of emphasizing the industrial design concept. By using the mesh cladding, the entire envelope of the space can be treated and a strong impression and dominant appearance can be created. The mesh tiles, which come in different colors, allow the iron frame to be adapted to the cladding of the building’s interior, thus creating a balance with the other colors chosen in the space.
